The Bitcoiner running for the French National Assembly 🇫🇷⚡️
Aurore Galves Orjol made its way onto the ballot papers for the legislatives in France. She's a Bitcoin Maxi.
For the first time in French history, a Bitcoin appeared on the ballot papers, thanks to Aurore Galves Orjol. She seized the opportunity to run in the legislative elections in June 2024, accompaign by a platform only dedicated to Bitcoin. Chaos creates opportunities. When French President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the National Assembly on June 9, it led to what Aurore called “political chaos,” presenting a perfect moment to infiltrate the debate with a fresh idea: Bitcoin.
She ran without any political party, she knew that this was the moment to make a statement.
Is Europe behind in term of Crypto/Bitcoin?
The United States are making some moves in the crypto space - Donald Trump for instance. In Europe, few politicians even understand what Bitcoin is.
Aurore is not a typical politician, she’s a Bitcoiner bringing Bitcoin to the French political space. She presented herself near Lyon, in the region of Isère. She declared “Stop voting white, start voting Orange,” voting white means spoling your vote.
Does Bitcoin have its space in Politics?
The move of Aurore is a wakeup call for all European and American politicians that want to make a change. Democracies are open, other Bitcoiners should come forward and get involved in politics to fill the void for pro-Bitcoin voices. However, in my opinion, Bitcoin and state doesn’t go well together.
She’s right, there’s never been a more critical time for Bitcoiners to get involved. We see everyday more and more censorship all around the world.
What’s her plan?
Aurore’s campaign was built on two foundational promises: promoting Bitcoin mining in France to encourage renewable energy, and protecting the individual’s right to self-custody. She argues that Bitcoin mining can make use of stranded or wasted renewable energy, turning what would be lost resources into a powerful force for good. “The French government and companies funnel billions of euros into renewable energy each year,” Aurore points out. “There is tremendous potential for Bitcoin mining in France with stranded or wasted renewable energy but sadly, little impetus to do so.”
On self-custody, Aurore is adamant. It’s a core tenet of Bitcoin philosophy and essential to its growing success. The EU’s MICA regulations are a direct threat to this principle, pushing for laws that could make self-custody illegal. “They don’t understand this technology because if they did, they would never have endangered individuals in this way,” Aurore argues. She’s fighting back against a lack of understanding among policymakers and making it clear that Bitcoiners need to take a stand.
What Should You Do Next?
Inspired by Aurore’s fight? Here’s what I suggest:
Learn About Bitcoin: Deepen your understanding of Bitcoin’s potential and its impact on our future.
Get Involved in Politics: Take Aurore’s example to heart—if you’re passionate about Bitcoin, it’s time to make your voice heard.
Stack Sats: Keep accumulating Bitcoin. As we continue to push for acceptance and understanding, Bitcoin’s value proposition only grows stronger.
